Pennsylvania Sends Strong Contingent to NHSCA Nationals

One of the largest wrestling events in the Country the NHSCA Nationals splits the Tournament into grade levels. Heavy hitters from Pennsylvania who will be competing in the 2016 NHSCA Nationals include Athens Area star Brian Courtney, 2x PIAA State Champion Tyson Klump (Nazareth Area), FloNationals Champion Dakota Geer (Franklin) and Belle Vernon stud Austin Bell.
In the Freshmen Division three 2016 PIAA State Medalists will compete as Beau Bayless (Reynolds) will be a favorite to medal at 106 lbs. after placing fourth at the PIAA State Tournament. He is joined at 106 lbs. by PIAA State Qualifiers Cam Enriquez (Stroudsburg) and Nick Rosengrant (Saucon Valley). Upper Dauphin’s Bronson Garber was a SE Regional Champion and placed fifth at the PIAA State Tournament competing at 113 lbs. Garber is a talented rookie who will be a NHSCA Title contender. Franklin Regional freshman Colton Camacho is returning to the mat after an injury prematurely ended his successful season. Camacho was ranked in the Top 15 of the State at 113 lbs. most of the season and if fully healthy he will perform well.
Susquehanna Township rookie Edmond Ruth was a SC Regional Champion at 145 lbs. and managed to find a spot on the PIAA State podium finishing in eighth. He will compete at 152 lbs. in Virginia Beach and will be a favorite.
Other wrestlers competing in the NHSCA Freshmen Nationals include, Luca Frinzi (126), Gabe Miller (126), Scott Joll (145), Steven Newell (152), Kolt Schaeffer (182), and Jameel Coles (195).
In the NHSCA Sophomore Nationals Pennsylvania sends 17 wrestlers with PIAA State Medals including PIAA State Champion Gavin Hoffmann (Montoursville Area) and National Prep Champion Jack Davis (Wyoming Seminary). At 106 lbs. PIAA State Third Place Medalist Dalton Rohrbaugh (Spring Grove Area) will be in the hunt for a NHSCA Title and is joined by fellow 2016 PIAA State Medalists Joe Klock (Benton Area) and John Consorti (Wilson).
At 113 lbs. three additional PIAA State Medalist are competing with PIAA State Runner-up Louis Newell (Seneca Valley) leading the charge. Newell, a 2x PIAA State Medalist, was the State Runner-up at 106 lbs. last month. Fellow 2x PIAA State Medalist Chris Wright (Central Dauphin) is one of several Rams competing in Virginia Beach. Bethlehem Catholic sophomore Zach Glenn had a break-out season and finished fifth on the PIAA State podium at 106 lbs.
Pennslyvania Native and Wyoming Seminary sophomore Jack Davis made headlines when he won the National Prep Championship last month. He peaked at the right time taking down several high profile wrestlers en route to the National Championship. He will be in search of yet another National Title competing at 126 lbs. after finishing third at the NHSCA Freshmen Nationals a season ago. 2015 PIAA State Medalist Andrew Wert (Central Dauphin) left Hershey without a medal at 132 lbs. in 2016 but will compete at 126 lbs. for the NHSCA National where he should find success.
At 138 lbs. 2x PIAA State Medalist Zach Hartman (Belle Vernon) is a favorite to capture a National Medal after yet another successful season for the Leopards. Hartman was sixth last season at the NHSCA Freshmen Nationals. 2x PIAA State Medalist Justin McCoy (Chestnut Ridge) will be competing at 145 lbs. where he hopes to earn his first NHSCA National Medal.
After a disappointing PIAA State Tournament sophomore Robert Patrick (Ligonier Valley) will look to return to his prominence when he finished as a PIAA State Runner-up his freshman season. Patrick will be competing at 152 lbs. in the Sophomore Nationals. Three of the top sophomore in the State will take on the field at 160 lbs. with 2016 PIAA State Medalists Josh Stilling (Pennridge) and Dalton Group (Susquenita), in addition to 2x PIAA State Qualifier Quentin Milliken (Cumberland Valley), all vying for a spot on the National podium. In 2015 Group was a NHSCA Freshmen Nationals Champion while Stillings was third at Nationals.
Rounding out the PIAA State Medalist competing in the Sophomore Nationals three PIAA State Finalists will be competing. Anthony Walters (Westmont Hilltop) fell in a wild overtime bout in the PIAA State Finals at 170 lbs. and last season placed fourth at the NHSCA Freshmen Nationals. The Champion of that weight was Montoursville Area wrestler Gavin Hoffman. Now a PIAA State Champion Gavin will be in search of his second straight NHSCA National Championship this season competing at 195 lbs. At 220 lbs. PIAA State Runner-up Josiah Jones (Westmont Hilltop) is hoping to become a National Champion in his first trip to the NHSCA Nationals.
Pennsylvania juniors will have a tough act to follow but several PA Stars will help the Keystone State compete. Leading the group of juniors in Virginia Beach is 2016 PIAA State Champion Brian Courtney (Athens Area). One of the most talked about wrestlers in the Nation Courtney made PIAA State History when he defeated three different PIAA State Champions en route to his first State Title. He followed that performance up with a dominating showing at the FloNationals where he took down some of the Nation’s top wrestlers. Last season Brian left Virginia Beach as a NHSCA Sophomore Nationals Champion winning the 120 lbs. bracket. Brian will be competing at 132 lbs. in 2016 and is the favorite to win the National Championship.
Another junior whose stock has been on a steady rise is Travis Stefanik (Nazareth Area). The PIAA State Third Place Medalist joined Courtney as winning the 2016 FloNationals Championship title. In 2015 Travis placed third at the NHSCA Sophomore Nationals and is poised to improve on that finish.
Former South Western grappler and PIAA State Runner-up Seth Janney (Malvern Prep) is looking to follow up his 2015 NHSCA Sophomore National Championship and will be competing at 220 lbs. Other juniors to keep an eye on include Geo Barzona (113), Luke Werner (120), KJ Fenstermacher (126), Jake Riegel (132), Ryan Farber (160), Drew Peck (170), Luke Funck (182), Eli Grape (195), and Niko Camacho (285).
