Rookies Chlebove and Garber Make Moves in Updated State Rankings
The PA State Wrestling landscape is taking shape as the post-season quickly approaches. Two freshmen made statements over the weekend and put the rest of the field at 113 lbs. on alert. Not surprisingly PA Power Wrestling’s Class of 2016 Top Incoming Freshman #3 Julian Chlebove has ascended near the top of the State Rankings following a Championship performance at 113 lbs.
Chlebove competed in his first Tournament down at 113 lbs. having wrestled at 120 lbs. for the Beast of The East and Hurricane Classic. The rookie entered the Escape The Rock ranked #8 in the State at 113 lbs. but after knocking out the #3 ranked wrestler Matty Parker (Pennridge) in the finals (1-0) he now takes over the third spot in the State. Chlebove followed his performance up with yet another significant victory just three days later against Bethlehem Catholic. In a match-up of freshmen Julian turned on the offense to defeat #6 Ryan Anderson (BECA) score (7-2). The State’s Top Ranked Incoming Freshman has high hopes for the post-season but will have to go through a gauntlet of wrestling as an incredible five (5) District 11 wrestlers are currently ranked Top 10 in the State at 113 lbs. Take a listen to TIF and #3 Julian Chlebove below.
Another freshman who saw an upward movement in his State Ranking was Upper Dauphin Area freshman Bronson Garber who over the weekend won the Schuylkill League Tournament at 113 lbs. The rookie avenged his only defeat on the season by taking out senior and returning PIAA State Medalist Willy Girard (Williams Valley) in the finals of the Schuylkill League Tournament. In his first ever high school competition Garber dropped a tight (4-3 UTB) match to Girard in the finals of the Bloomsburg DKI Tournament. Now over a month later that defeat is the only one in his young career but Garber was able to got revenge the second time around. Again the pair battled into overtime with Garber clinching the win (5-4 UTB). The win jumped Garber from the #5 spot in the Class AA State Rankings up to #2 where he only sits behind senior #1 Alan Diltz (Benton Area).
