Young Guns Wins PAWF Freestyle Kids & Junior Club Duals

The Young Guns WC continued their dominance of the PAWF Freestyle Club Duals this weekend in Bethlehem, PA at Moravian College’s Timothy Breidegam Fieldhouse.

Seven Kids Club Teams Champion in a row for Young Guns WC

On Saturday the PAWF Kids Club Duals were competed and Head Coach Jody Strittmatter saw his club win their SEVENTH Championship title in a row. Consisting of wrestlers between the age levels of Bantam through Schoolboy, Young Guns Blue defeated team Banditos of Virginia in the finals (60-18), capping a perfect day on the mat. Chambersburg Area wrestler Tate Nichter was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the Kids Division.

Winning their seventh straight Kids Club Duals Championship Strittmatter and the Young Guns WC staff have seen an incredible amount of talent come through the ranks. Names like current NCAA Division I wrestlers Michael Kemerer, DJ Hollingshead, Josh Maruca and Josh Shields have all contributed to Kids Club Championships for Young Guns over the last seven years.

The last four PAWF Junior Club Champions from Young Guns

The winning did not stop at the Kids level as Young Guns Blue won their fourth straight PAWF Junior Club Duals Championship on Sunday afternoon. Young Guns Blue was an All-Star collection of Pennsylvania’s best wrestlers lead by Spencer Lee (Franklin Regional), Gavin Teasdale (Jefferson Morgan), and Cameron Coy (Penn Trafford). In the finals Young Guns Blue took down club Eclipse of New York (50-17). Hempfield Area sophomore Luke Kemerer was named the Junior Division Outstanding Wrestler.

Highlights from the Junior Club Duals included 2016 195 lbs. PIAA State Champion John Jakobson (Stroudsburg) who competed for Weaver Elite and took down two PIAA State Champions. The senior and Lehigh recruit defeated Class AA 220 lbs. State Champion Cole Nye (Bishop McDevitt) score (12-9) and also knocked down Class AAA 220 lbs. Jacob Robb (Armstrong) score (12-8).
