Altoona Area senior D.J. Hollingshead bumped up from 160 lbs. to 170 lbs. for the Post-Season.

The Week 11 Class AAA State Rankings saw many big names shifting in weights causing many changes in the Rankings. Below is a look at some of the notable shifts that took place.

106 lbs.

The big news here is the absence of former #1 Riley Palmer (Council Rock South) who will miss the post-season after not making weight at the Sectional Tournament. Palmer was undoubtedly the favorite at 106 lbs. in his sophomore season after finishing fifth last season and having been undefeated thus far. Without Palmer he field is much more open and sophomore #2 Cole Manley (Altoona Area) just added to the depth as he dropped from 113 lbs. Manley competed at 113 lbs. the entire season and was a PIAA State Qualifier as a freshman. Also returning to 106 lbs. is Nazareth Area’s #5 Tyson Klump. The junior was a State Qualifier last season but saw limited action this season competing at 113 lbs. and 120 lbs. Returning to 106 bs. Klump will look to get back on track at the District 11 Tournament.

113 lbs.

Shaking up the Rankings this week is junior #2 Gage Curry (North Hills) who moves down from 120 lbs. The 2x PIAA State Medalist had been at 120 lbs. and 126 lbs. for most of the season but will add even more depth to an already crowded 113 lbs. weight. Curry is undefeated this season and will be in search of his third straight PIAA State Medal.

120 lbs.

One of the State’s top freshman, Sammy Sasso (Nazareth Area), already has some impressive wins in his rookie season but just dropped to 120 lbs. for the post-season. Sasso had impressive wins at 126 lbs., including over State Medalist Jacob Lizak (Parkland), and enters in at #7 at 120 lbs.

126 lbs.

Returning to the line-up for the post-season is junior #4 Ethan McCoy (Greater Latrobe) who owns an impressive win over State Champion #2 Luke Karam (Bethlehem Catholic) at the KOM in December 2014. McCoy had mono which sidelined him for several weeks and if he his fully healthy could make a strong run at the PIAA State Tournament.

132 lbs.

Not many changed here – former PIAA State Qualifier Lee Todora (Parkland) dropped from 138 lbs. and is ranked #17. Todora had several quality wins at the PIAA State Team Tournament at 138 lbs. and could make some noise at the District 11 Tournament.

138 lbs.

Another notable absence is Cumberland Valley junior Felix Belga who did not make weight at the Section 1 District 3 Tournament. Belga was ranked #7 in the State. District 11 wrestlers #13 Travis Stefanik (Nazareth Area) and #14 Christian Gosch (Blue Mountain) both dropped from 145 lbs.

145 lbs.

Senior Patrick Duggan (Cumberland Valley) spent most of the season competing at 152 lbs. and even made some appearances at 160 lbs. but will be down at 145 lbs. in his final post-season. Duggan will be in search of his fourth PIAA State Medal and sits at #2 behind 3x PIAA State Runner-up #1 Michael Kemerer (Franklin Regional).

160 lbs.

Two big names made the drop from 170 lbs. with former PIAA State Medalist #8 Brendan Burnham (Pine-Richland) and #9 Cody Cordes (Wyoming Valley West). The senior Cordes was a PIAA State Qualifier last season while Burham, a Maryland recruit, was a 2013 PIAA State Medalist.

170 lbs.

The big move here is Altoona Area senior #2 D.J. Hollignshead who is bumping up from 160 lbs. to compete in a more open 170 lbs. weight. Hollingshead was a PIAA State Fourth Place Medalist last season at 152 lbs. I think Hollingshead made a good move as 170 lbs. is basically wide open at the top with a handful of potential State Champions.

285 lbs.

Probably the biggest move was Bethlehem Catholic senior #1 Andrew Dunn bumped up to 285 lbs. for the post-season. Dunn was ranked #1 at 220 lbs. for the entire season until junior Jordan Wood (Boyertown Area) returned from an injury. Dunn, a 2014 PIAA State Third Place Medalist, hasn’t competed at heavyweight this season but he should not have a hard time adjusting up a weight. PA Wrestling fans are missing out on an exciting match between Dunn and Wood. #2 Bo Spiller (Solanco) knows about changing weights as last season he dropped to 220 lbs. due to 4x PIAA State Champion Thomas Haines (Solanco) moving to heavyweight. Now back up at heavyweight for his senior season Spiller and Dunn has potential to be a entertaining bout.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
