CHAMBERSBURG – The 2017 Pennsylvania Amautur Wrestling Federation (PAWF) State Tournament ended over the weekend with the Keystone State’s top talent competing in Freestyle and Greco-Roman. The State Tournament is divided into six different age group divisions; Bantam, Intermediate, Novice, Schoolboy, Cadet and Junior.

Several young and rising Pennsylvania Wrestling stars competed in the Cadet Freestyle State Tournament. At 126 lbs. PIAA State Qualifier Colton Camacho (Franklin Regional) defeated 2017 State Medalist and fellow Young Guns Club member Ed Scott (DuBois) by tech-fall (10-0) in the finals. PIAA State Runner-up Carter Starocci (Cathedral Prep) had no issues claiming the Cadet State Championship at 160 lbs. and freshman PIAA State Medalist Luke Nichter (Chambersburg) rolled to a title at 170 lbs. 

In the Junior Division Fargo National Champion Jaret Lane (Southern Columbia), a 2017 PIAA State Champion, picked up two falls and a tech-fall en route to a State Championship at 113 lbs. Nazareth, PA native and Blair Academy standout Mike Madara defeated PIAA State Champion Doug Zapf (Downingtown West) in the 120 lbs. State Finals. Caleb Morris (Waynesburg Central) won a talented 132 lbs. weight-class that included National Prep Medalist Kyle Gorant (The Hill School), 2-time PA State Medalist Gregg Wert (Central Dauphin), and Benton’s Joe Klock. In the finals Morris scored 19 points in a high scoring affair with Kyle Gorant to win the State Championship (19-16). 

Former National Prep Champion Jack Davis (Wyoming Seminary) went unscored upon tallying a point margin of (30-0) against his three opponents at 138 lbs. PIAA State Champion Edmond Ruth (Susquehanna Township) showed off his Freestyle skills dominating the 160 lbs. weight earning three (10-0) tech-falls and a fall against four opponents. PIAA State Champion Trent Hidlay (Mifflin County) came out on top of a loaded 170 lbs. weight which featured National Prep Medalist Jake Hendricks (Wyoming Seminary) and PIAA State runner-up Josh Stillings (Pennridge). Fargo All-American Miles Lee (South Philadelphia) outlasted 2-time PIAA State runner-up Anthony Walters (Bishop McCort) in the 195 lbs. finals winning on criteria (8-8). 3-time PIAA State Medalist Francis Duggan (Cedar Cliff) cruised to the 220 lbs. Championship going out-scoring opponents (32-0).
