College commitments from the Keystone State’s top grapplers are starting to heat up. In the past week seven wrestlers ranked in the Top 300 of recruits from the Class of 2016 have made their college choices. View the Top 300 Recruits of the Class of 2016 here!
Leading the way is #3 Luke Karam who has committed to Lehigh where he joins a long list of talented PA Wrestlers from the Class of 2016. Karam, a 2x PIAA State Champion from Bethlehem Catholic, had originally given a verbal commitment to Bucknell last season before re-opening his recruiting search. Karam will follow a group of BECA recruits for head coach Pat Santoro including Darian Cruz and Elliot Riddick. That brings the total number of Pennsylvania comitments from the Class of 2016 to seven. Others include #2 Jordan Wood, #6 Chris Weiler and #16 John Jakobsen.
#27 Nick Monico (Saegertown), a 3x PIAA State Medalist, has committed to Kent State. Monico is the first Top 300 recruit from the Class of 2016 who has committed to Kent State. He projects to compete at 149 lbs.
Lock Haven head coach Scott Moore received a commitment from #34 Jonathan Ross (Northern York). Ross is a 2015 PIAA State fifth place Medalist who has made strides throughout his career placing twice at the South Central Regional. In his first trip to Hershey, PA the Northern York Polar Bear made the most of it placing fifth in a deep 145 lbs. weight class.
#38 Josh Colello is Coleman Scott’s first commitment from Pennsylvania since taking over as head coach at North Carolina. Coello is a 3x PIAA State Medalist who earned a fifth place finish as a junior. The hard nosed wrestler enters his senior season with a (115-23) career record and projects to compete for the Tar Heels at 184 lbs.
Bloomsburg received a commitment from a second 2015 PIAA State Medalist with Kiski Area senior #39 Tyler Worthing. The senior is a 2x PIAA State Qualifier who placed fourth last season at 220 lbs. and was a WPIAL/Southwest Regional Champion. Worthing joins Bailey Shutt (Lower Dauphin) as the second 2015 PIAA State Medalist to commit to Bloomsburg. Tyler projects to compete at 197 lbs. for the Huskies.
#67 Damon Greenwald (Burrell), a 2015 PIAA State Medalist, will be staying close to home as he committed to Seton Hill. The senior improved immensely last season after finishing (15-11) as a sophomore to qualify for his first PIAA State Tournament.
