The Class of 2016 recruiting decisions are heating up and the latest commitment came from 2015 PIAA State Champion Jonathan Gabriel (Bedford). The #12 recruit from PA’s Class of 2016 committed to the Naval Academy where he will join several Pennsylvania wrestling natives.
In 2015 Gabriel rebounded from a South West Regional defeat to Tristan Law (Forest Hills) in the finals at 120 lbs. (6-3) to advance into his second straight PIAA State Finals appearance. In the State finals Jonathan outlasted fellow junior Seth Hogue (Reynolds) with a (8-4) decision. In 2014 Gabriel faced Hogue in the PIAA State semifinals earning a fall (3:50) to advance into the 113 lbs. PIAA State Finals where he finished runner-up to Luke Karam (Bethlehem Catholic). It was the sophomore’s first trip to Hershey.
As a freshman Gabriel had a solid season at 106 lbs. finishing (32-4) missing a trip to States going (2-2) in a loaded South West Regional bracket. Prior to his freshman season at Bedford Jonathan was ranked #16 in the Top Incoming Freshmen of 2013 by PA Power Wrestling.
Gabriel projects to compete at 125 lbs. for the Blue and Gold.
