Just four months ago Nazareth Area senior Sage Karam was helping the Blue Eagles finish third at the PIAA State AAA Dual Team Championships. Competing at 145 lbs. Karam went undefeated (4-0) at the State Duals including a come from behind pin over PIAA State Medalist Josh Maruca (Franklin Regional). Now the 19-year old grappler is doing what he does best – driving really really fast.
Sage, whose father Jody Karam is the Bethlehem Liberty wrestling head coach and uncle Jeff Karam is the Bethlehem Catholic head coach, is no stranger to the International and National racing scene. Competing at the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” Sage made his IndyCar debut at the Indy 500 and dazzled fans as he began the race in the 31st position and finished the 200 lap, 500 mile race, in 9th place.
A National celebrity, Sage missed the Nazareth Area High School senior Prom but his crew threw he and his girlfriend an impromptu dance two days before the race. Karam was the youngest participant in the 2014 Indy 500 and showed why he is considered one the rising stars in racing by finishing in the top 10.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
