Connor Sheehan (Solanco) turns Gage Curry (North Hills) at 106 lbs.

Seniority rules – that is the statement senior #6 Connor Sheehan made as he defeated sophomore #2 Gage Curry (5-2) in the opening round in Hershey. Sheehan looked poised as he turned Curry to his back and knocked him off balance most of the match. Sheehan, a State runner-up last season, will meet freshman #16 Riley Palmer (Council Rock South) in the quarterfinals. Palmer was a District 1 runner-up to fellow freshman #15 Jakob Campbell (Boyertown Area) who had an impressive (1-0) win over #4 Tyrone Klump (Nazareth Area) in the first round. Klump went (0-2) in his first trip to Hershey falling to freshman #19 Cole Manley in the consolation round. Returning PIAA Class AA State Champion #1 Devin Brown (Franklin Regional) needed every ounce of strength to get past New Oxford freshman #10 Zurich Storm (8-7).

Sophomore #17 Owen Wherley (South Western) upset 3x PIAA State Medalist #4 Jake Gromacki (Cathedral Prep) in overtime (3-0 TB). Shippensburg Area freshman #16 Chandler Olson held on to defeat returning PIAA State Medalist and senior #9 Mike Marino (Garnet Valley) with a (4-3) decision. Not really a surprise #11 Jalen Palmer (Delaware Valley), a returning PIAA State Medalist, defeated #4 Eddie Kriczky (Boyertown Area) in a tight (3-0) win. At 152 lbs. Bethel Park junior #17 Paul Dunn earned his first career PIAA State Tournament victory with a (9-8) victory over #7 Elijah Brown (Easton Area).

Senior #4 Kyle Koser (Northern York) came from behind to top returning PIAA State Medalist #10 Tyree Spearman (McDowell) by pin in overtime (6:48 OT). #2 Jan Johnson (Governor Mifflin) had no issues with #9 Zack Smith (North Allegheny) turning the Tiger with a cradle to win (7-1). Two of the biggest upsets of the first round occurred at 220 lbs. #18 Dwyane Pepper (Shikellamy) defeated # 5 Omar Haddad (Parkland) with a (3-2) decision and #16 Dylan Davis (Greater Latrobe) downed #4 Antonio Pelusi (LaSalle College) in ultimate tire-breaker (3-2 UTB).
