Class AA First Round in the Books

Freshman Jacob Oliver (Huntingdon Area) wins his first match of States over Levi Stoyer (Reynolds)

Not a whole lot of upsets occurred on Day 1 of the Class AA Championship round. There were, however, several exciting bouts including freshman #9 Jacob Oliver (Huntingdon Area) coming from behind to defeat #3 Levi Stoyer (Reynolds) in tie-breaker (9-8 TB).

A 106 lbs. Bethlehem Catholic freshman #12 Jake Reigel looked sharp handing fellow freshman #2 Brian Courtney (Athens Area) his first defeat of the season with a decisive (7-1) decision.

#14 Seth Houge (Reynolds) had an impressive (5-2) win at 120 lbs. over #2 Jacob Wasser (Palisades). Wasser was a State fourth place medalist last season at 106 lbs. while Houge went (1-2). At 126 lbs. #9 Josh Giorgio (Schuylkill Valley) powered past #5 Lewis Williams (Central Columbia) with a (3-0) decision.

At 160 lbs. Lewisburg Area’s #14 Max Reed earned an upset via pin over #8 Levi Niebauer (Cambria Heights) in (4:57). At 195 lbs. #11 Richard Nase (Panther Valley) earned a upset victory over #3 James Bennett (Hyndman) with a (3-1) victory.
