Nation’s #1 Wrestler Chance Marsteller Picks Penn State
There were most certainly fireworks on July 4th in the wrestling world as the Nation’s top prospect, Chance Marsteller, committed to the Penn State Nittany Lion’s and head coach Cael Sanderson.
Marsteller is touted as the #1 high school wrestler in all weight classes amongst all grades. He is undefeated at (125-0) entering his senior season at Kennard Dale High School in Pennsylvania’s District 3. The 3x PIAA Class AAA State Champion has done something unusual for himself this summer: taken a summer break. Normally Chance can be found at any and all Freestyle events in the off-season but the 17 year-old and his body needed well deserved rest this summer.
Chance was sought by virtually every major NCAA Division I program in the country but, since taking the lead role for Penn State’s wrestling team in 2009, Cael Sanderson has kept PA’s best wrestlers in state and Marsteller is clearly the most impressive of those recruits. The incoming senior has made clear what his lifetime goals in wrestling are: qualify for the United Stated Olympic Team and win an Olympic Gold medal. As of right now the 2016 Olympic Games are his only option as Wrestling has yet to be brought back into the Games past 2016.
Marsteller will look to end his career as only the second ever wrestler to win four PIAA State Championships and remain undefeated, the first since Cary Kolat made the feat in 1992. Kolat too went on to wrestle for Penn State University before transferring to Lock Haven University where he won two NCAA Division I National Championships.
Chance projects to compete at 165 lbs. for the Nittany Lion’s.
