2X State Champion Thomas Haines Commits to Penn State
One of the Nation’s top juniors Thomas Haines of Solanco has given a verbal commitment to Cael Sanderson and the Penn State Nittany Lion Wrestling team. As a freshman Haines made PIAA history when he captured his first State title at 215 lbs. which was the highest weight class that a freshman ever captured. Last season as a sophomore Haines looked comfortable en route to his second straight State title, finishing the season undefeated at (44-0). In just two seasons of high school competition the junior has amassed a (94-4) career record that includes two PIAA State Class AAA Championships; two Escape The Rock Championships; one POWERade Championship; and one South Central Regional Championship. The aggressive upper-weight will no doubt be favored to capture two more State Championships thus etching his name in the PIAA record book. According to Intermat Wrestling Haines predicts to compete at heavyweight for Penn State. The junior would have certainly been on many Division I programs but as he has done since arriving in Happy Valley, Cael Sanderson is continuing to keep PA’s best in State.
