Updated Week 2 State Rankings Include Big Movers

PA Power Wrestling’s State Rankings have been updated and there was a lot of shuffling around between weight classes and rankings. Below are four notable movers who significantly improved their spots on the State level.

Kaden Cassidy/Chestnut Ridge – 120 lbs.

Last Week: #11

This Week:  #4

There were questions about how Cassidy would handle to jump from 106 lbs. to 120 lbs. especially after the opening weekend when rookie Zack Witmer (St. Joseph’s Academy) gave it to him in a (13-6) win. For his part the PIAA State Third Place Medalist had a strong showing at King of The Mountain entering the tournament ranked #11 in the State at 120 lbs. The sophomore looked sharp against #5 Issac Crowel (Fort LeBoeuf) picking up a major decision (10-0) over the PIAA State Medalist. In the finals Cassidy face 2017 PIAA State Finalist Chase Shields (Bishop McDevitt) who entered ranked #2 in the State. Cassidy, who almost used up all his blood time from a gushing nose, scored the only point of the match earning an escape to win it (1-0).

Nate Schon/Selinsgrove Area – 220 lbs.

Last Week: #NR

This Week: #5

Freshman Nate Schon turned his first high school event into a springboard to the State AAA Rankings. Read more about Schon’s epic weekend here

Cameron Robinson/Council Rock North – 145 lbs.

Last Week: #12

This Week: #5

Council Rock North sophomore Cameron Robinson made the jump from 132 lbs. to 145 lbs. in is sophomore season and apparently the growth is paying off. Robinson was ranked #12 in the State before the Penn Manor Tournament where he took out returning PIAA State Medalist and senior Zack Ortman (Parkland) in the semifinals by fall in (2:24). Robinson’s only defeat of the season thus far was in the Penn Manor finals against Pequea Valley’s Gabe Miller (10-6). Miller entered the tournament ranked #1 in the State at 138 lbs. but moved up a weight class in week two.

Trae Kitko/Moshannon Valley – 285 lbs.

Last Week: #13

This Week: #4

Moshannon Valley junior Trae Kitko went (16-5) last season while competing for District 9 power Clearfield Area going (1-2) at Regionals and missing a shot at a State Tournament appearance. Now at Moshannon Valley in District 6 Class AA Kitko is coming into his own at heavyweight. Kitko moved from #13 Week 1 to #4 after taking second at the Penn Cambria Panther Holiday Classic. Although the weight wasn’t a deep one with any State ranked wrestlers it was still a promising showing for Kitko who could not only make his first trip to Hershey but possibly earn some hardware.
