The Top Incoming Freshmen Report of 2020 Featuring 130 Wrestlers Released

The Ninth Annual Top Incoming Freshmen Report presented by PA Power Wrestling has been released. This year’s edition has a slightly different look to it as we include the Top 75 ranked wrestlers plus 55 Honorable Mentions for a total of 130 listed rookies. As in previous editions the TIF Report looks at the Keystone State’s best freshmen who have excelled on the Youth scene and are projected to make an impact for their schools over the next four seasons.

Main tournaments and events used in evaluating wrestlers include the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Area and State Tournaments, the Super 32, The Surge, MAWA Eastern Nationals, FloNationals, Ohio Tournament of Champions, Fargo Nationals, respective Junior High District Tournaments, POWERade, and various dual tournaments.

Names that have appeared as the #1 ranked Top Incoming Freshman in Pennsylvania include Michael Kemerer (2012), Luke Pletcher (2013), Spencer Lee (2014), Gavin Teasdale (2015), Julian Chlebove (2016), Beau Bartlett (2017), Cole Rees (2018), and Ryan Crookham (2019).

By The Numbers

 

The team with the most Top Incoming Freshmen is District 11’s Nazareth Area who have a list leading seven freshmen included in the TIF. The Blue Eagles will have a log-jam of talent in the light-weights but eventually these names will crack one of the best line-ups in the State. Two teams each have five wrestlers on the TIF Report with Greater Latrobe and Northampton Area. Four schools each have four wrestlers with Bethlehem Catholic, Malvern Prep, North Allegheny, and Waynesburg Central.

When it comes to which class the 2020 TIF will compete in, not surprisingly, Class AAA holds the most wrestlers with 83 while Class AA boasts 42. Five wrestlers will be competing in the National Prep division.

In terms of District distribution the WPIAL continues it’s dominance of the TIF Report with 38 wrestlers set to compete in District 7. Not far behind are the scrappers out east from District 11 as they feature 29 freshmen. District 3 and District 4 each come in with 15 wrestlers on the list while District 6 and District 9 claim eight each.
