Pennsylvania Advances 12 Into Fargo Cadet Freestyle Quarterfinals; 19 Alive in Wrestle Backs
The day started out with 60 Cadets competing in Freestyle for Team Pennsylvania and it ended with 31 still alive. Twelve advanced into the Championship Quarterfinals in Fargo including returning All-Americans Jacob Van Dee (Cathedral Prep) at 106 pounds and Kolby Franklin (St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy) at 220 pounds (Photo of Franklin by Sam Janicki)
Nineteen Cadets are still alive in the consolation round and remain in the hunt for an All-American finish. Unfortunately there will be two PA vs. PA matches in the consolation round of 16 #2. Wrestlers in the consolation round of 16 #2 need to win three more matches in order to make the top eight. Of the29 wrestlers eliminated on Day 1 – only six went (0-2) on the day.
In the Cadet Women’s division Pennsylvania will earn three All-Americans as returning Fargo Finalists Ava Bayless and Lily Sherer each earned their second straight podium finish. This year, however, Bayless is going for fifth at 106 pounds while Sherer will go for third at 132 pounds. Joining them is Abbygale Duke, a New York native who attends Wyoming Seminary, who is going for 7th at 106 pounds.
