ICYMI: Pennsylvania’s NCAA Update from the Twitterverse

 

The highly anticipated re-match of the last years NCAA third place match at 133 pounds, between Luke Pletcher and Tariq Wilson, was short lived when Ohio State faced off against N.C. State. Pletcher, the Ohio State junior from Latrobe, was hoping for some payback on Wilson who defeated him in the consolation finals by major decision (17-6). Wilson drew first blood when he scored on a single leg but Pletcher quickly escaped. In the second period Pletcher escaped quickly to bring the match tied (2-2) but in the process Wilson injured his ankle and was forced to injury default.

 

Lewistown, PA native Hayden Hidlay, a 2018 NCAA Finalist, earned thee ACC’s co-Wrestler of the Week honor as he grabbed a (7-2) decision over Ohio State’s #7 Ke-Shawn Hayes. 

 

Penn State senior Bo Nickal was named the Big Ten’s Wrestler of the Week after he pinned his way to the Southern Scuffle Championship at 197 pounds. 

 

Pennsylvania’s Mikey Labriola, the Nebraska redshirt freshman, had a solid win over #13 Johnny Sebastian of Northwestern. The BECAHI graduate majored Sebastian (14-4) and was chasing him all over the mat.

 

The Pitt Panthers had an impressive win over Oklahoma in match that saw former OU assistant coach Keith Gavin defeat his mentor Lou Rosselli in Norman, OK. The win was propelled by several Pennsylvania natives including at 197 pounds. Mount Lebanon State Champion Kellan Stout defeated fellow WPIAL wrestler Jake Woodley (North Allegheny) in a tight bout (4-3).
