Eleven Can’t Miss Quarterfinals From the Southwest Regional Championships

126 Pounds

#9 Jared Keslar (Connellsville Area) vs. #12 Jordan Watters (West Allegheny)

These two faced off in the 2018 POWERade during the 7th place bout with Keslar winning it (6-2). Wattters is a junior who last season was a PIAA State Qualifier while Keslar is only a freshman. Jared turned heads when he won PA Power Wrestling’s The Surge back in November 2018.

132 Pounds

#10 Jason Geyer (Seneca Valley) vs. #22 Zach McCann (Franklin Regional)

Despite having two wins over Jason Geyer last season Zach McCann finds himself at #22 while Geyer is #10. They haven’t faced off this season but Geyer comes in with a (32-9) season record and both were Section runner-ups last weekend.

138 Pounds

#4 Nick Coy (Penn-Trafford) vs. #20 Daniel Yetsick (Ambridge Area)

Top seed Nick Coy was a PIAA State Medalist last season and has been dominant thus far in his senior season. He will take on a scrappy junior who is making his third straight Southwest Regional appearance. We don’t get to see a ton of Ambridge but Yetsick is solid and will make it interesting.

#15 Nathan Lukez (Pine-Richland) vs. #18 Dajauhn Hertzog (Greensburg-Salem)

These two have not wrestled in their high school careers but have very similar results against common opponents which should make for a fun match between two wrestlers ranked top twenty in the State. They both lost to Mason Spears (Franklin Regional) this year and both have wins over Brian Finnerty (Thomas Jefferson).

#14 Mason Spears (Franklin Regional) vs. #16 Drew Vlasnik (Seneca Valley)

Mason Spears beat Drew Vlasnik in the King of The Mountain finals back in December and now will face off in the SW Regional Quarterfinals. In that match Spears won a tight (6-5) decision.

145 Pounds

#13 Jackson Gray (Mount Lebanon) vs. #25 Enzo Moralacci (Kiski Area)

Mount Lebanon junior Jackson Gray is one of the most improved wrestlers in the WPIAL and he is the top seed at 145 pounds. He has never made it out of Regions and will have a tall task in rookie #25 Enzo Moralacci of Kiski. Moralacci has significant wins this season including over PIAA State Medalists whereas Gray has battled hard in the WPIAL.

#20 Antonio Amelio (Seneca Valley) vs. #21 Collin Franks (Connellsville Area)

Collin Franks is an unknown as he only just recently made it back this season. He is a senior in his third trip to the Southwest Regional but with a season record of (4-1). If he has his lungs back he may be able to push Amelio who is in search of his first trip to the PIAA State Tournament as a sophomore.

152 Pounds

#14 Luca Augustine (Waynesburg Central) vs. #18 Coltin Jezioro (Peters Township)

Sophomore Luca Augustine was close to making the trip to Hershey as a rookie but fell short in the blood round. Now he is #14 in the State and takes on senior Coltin Jezioro in the quarters. Jezioro is in his fourth straight trip to Regionals. They have not wrestled this season and each own wins over Casper Hinklie (Connellsville).

#12 Nick Montalbano (Seneca Valley) vs. #16 Cole Spencer (Pine-Richland)

Last week these two wrestled in the Section 3 finals with senior Nick Montalbano winning it (2-1) in a tight bout. Spencer is a sophomore who last year was a Southwest Regional Finalist and went on to place at the PIAA State Tournament. Montalbano, on the other hand, is in search of his first trip to the GIANT Center.

160 Pounds

#14 Colby Morris (Waynesburg Central) vs. #15 Mac Stout (Mount Lebanon)

Rookie Mac Stout is hoping to bust open the 160 pound bracket with a win over fourth seed Colby Morris. Morris is a senior in his fourth trip to Regionals and over 100 career wins. They wrestled last month with Morris winning a narrow (1-0) decision over Stout. Expect a similar match her in the WPIAL quarterfinals.

195 Pounds

#10 Luke Montgomery (Bethel Park) vs. #11 Brayden Roscosky (Kiski Area)

An interesting match-up at 195 pounds as junior Luke Montgomery is looking for a win over sophomore Brayden Roscosky of Kiski. Montgomery was The Surge Champion in November while Roscosky has several quality wins in his first season of high school action. They have not wrestled and they don’t share any common opponents.
