#1 Reynolds Wins 2nd Straight Title on Strength of Balanced Line-up

HERSHEY – The Reynolds Raiders claimed their program’s fifth PIAA State Dual Team Championship on Saturday inside the GIANT Center marking their second straight title. It started with a bang for head coach Casey Taylor as #1 Cole Matthew earned a fall in (0:45) at 138 lbs. and #11 Hunter Michaels followed it up with a pin at 145 lbs. in just (0:59).

Southern Columbia answered in the next four bouts, their strongest portion of the line-up, but the Tigers were only able to garner 14 team points. #4 Gaige Garcia was the only one to earn bonus points at 170 lbs. picking up a tech-fall (21-6) over Reynolds rookie Cole Toy. #6 Cade Linn defeated Mason Wilkerson (4-1) at 152 lbs.; #9 Cal Haladay took down Hunter Thompson (5-0) at 160 lbs.; and #21 Anthony Scicchitano won (4-3) over Bryce McCloskey at 182 lbs.

Reynolds responded at 195 lbs. in a match between top ranked wrestlers. #7 Jarod Miller (Reynolds) closed out a (5-2) win over #14 Lear Quinton with a third period takedown. The Tigers kept it interesting grabbing a much needed toss-up match at 220 lbs. where Sean Sprauge downed Wyatt Owen (Reynolds) (7-3). In a back-and-forth match at heavyweight #17 John Fulmer (Southern Columbia) came out on top (2-0) against a very tough Derrick Skeehan.

Freshman #3 Gary Steen came through in his first trip to the GIANT Center for Reynolds at 106 lbs. getting a bonus point win by fall (2:57). Returning PA State Champion #1 Beau Bayless (Reynolds) nearly used up his entire blood time allotment at 113 lbs. in a marathon match with Tiger freshman Pat Edmonson. A bandaged Bayless grinded out a (7-4) win to bring the Raiders ahead (24-20) with three matches left.

#1 Jaret Lane, a returning State Champion for Southern Columbia, came through at 120 lbs. in a hardfought (26-11) tech-fall over Kaeden Berger (Reynolds) giving the Tigers their third lead of the dual (25-24). With two matches left Reynolds coach Casey Taylor put it in the hands of two reliable wrestlers.

“I felt comfortable ending it with Andrew and Rocco. These two battle and make each other better – Rocco Bartolo is a guy who was behind some tough teammates last year.”

At 126 lbs. PIAA State Medalist Andrew Ischo (Reynolds) got things rolling with a (5-2) win over a persistent Ian Yoder. It came down to junior Rocco Bartolo at 132 lbs. who sealed the deal for Reynolds picking up a (5-0) decision over Jake Renn (Southern Columbia) bringing the final team score to (30-25) in favor of the Raiders.
