Pennsylvania’s Top Class of 2019 Recruits Make College Commitments

The Class of 2019 Pennsylvania Big Board is filling up quickly as seniors start to make their decisions on post-high school destinations. Over the past two weeks 14 of the Top 225 seniors in Pennsylvania have made their decisions. Check them out below!

 

#15 Colton Camacho (Franklin Regional) – Pittsburgh

A Pennsylvania State runner-up last season Colton Camacho has been a hammer for the Franklin Regional Panthers the last three years. After an injury cut his rookie season short Camacho qualified for the PIAA State Tournament his sophomore year before earning his first State medal in 2018. Colton has competed well in both the Fargo Nationals and The Super 32 – despite not earning hardware from either. He projects to fit into Pitt’s line-up around 133 lbs.

 

#27 Darrien Roberts (Wyoming Seminary) – Oklahoma

One time East Stroudsburg North wrestler Darrien Roberts has only excelled since arriving at Wyoming Seminary. He has finished third and second in his last two seasons at the National Prep Tournament. Now Roberts will be a Sooner where he joins 2-time PA State Champion Jake Woodley in the upper-weights.

 

#41 Dan Mancini (Owen J. Roberts) – Virginia Tech

The Owen J. Roberts wrestler burst onto the National scene in Fargo, ND when he finished as an All-American at the Junior National Championships in Freestyle at 145 lbs. As a junior Mancini made his second trip to Hershey where he finished on the podium for the first time, taking 4th. He was being courted by some top Division I programs but he settled on the Hokies and their top notch coaching staff.

 

#78 Nehemiah Diggs (Harrisburg) – Edinboro

Not many wrestlers from Harrisburg have received Division I scholarships but Nehemiah Diggs, a 2018 PIAA State Qualifier, is heading to Edinboro as part of head coach Matt Hill’s rebuilding process. Diggs has huge potential and should make a push for PIAA hardware in 2019.

 

#80 Shane Noonan (Hazelton Area) – Edinboro

Another Edinboro commitment comes from Hazelton senior Shane Noonan who ha 102 career wins going into his final season. Noonan was a PA State Qualifier last year and was a Regional 5th place medalist as a sophomore. Like Diggs before him – Shane will be in the hunt for a PIAA State Medal in 2019.

 

#83 Jack Bruce (Blairsville) – Franklin & Marshall

Once a National Prep medalist at Kiski Prep, Blairsville senior Jack Bruce will head east to Franklin & Marshall. Last season in his first year of PIAA competition Jack qualified for the PIAA State Championships. This year he will try and improve upon his performance and grab a medal. 

 

#85 Steven Newell (Dallas) – Davidson

With 114 career wins in only three seasons of competition Steven Newell of Dallas has been a very consistent grappler in District 2. The 2018 PA State Qualifier recently committed to compete for Davidson College is North Carolina. He will join Kyle Gorant (The Hill School) who is a freshman at Davidson this year. 

 

#96 Nick Tewell (Mechanicsburg) – Franklin & Marshall

Mechanicsburg senior Nick Tewell is the second recruit that recently gave a commitment to F&M head coach Mike Rogers. Tewell has been steadily improving over his career and was highlighted by a 2018 performance that included 31 wins and a State Tournament appearance.

 

#99 Michael Cassidy (Cedar Cliff) – Edinboro

2-time PIAA State Qualifier Michael Cassidy is the third Keystone State wrestler in the last two weeks to give commitments to Edinboro, The Cedar Cliff senior has been to the State Tournament twice but has yet to come away with any hardware. He is a part of a Colts senior class that includes PIAA State Medalists JJ Wilson and Donovan Ball.

 

#134 Brandon Matthews (Peters Township) – Seton Hill

3-time South West Regional qualifier Brandon Matthews will head to Seton Hill after his final season at Peters Township. Watch below as he talks about getting over the hump this season and making it to the State Tournament.

 

#136 Nick Montalbano (Seneca Valley) – American

Seneca Valley senior Nick Montalbano has yet to make the PIAA State Tournament but the 2018 Surge runner-up is on pace to break that in 2019. He and #155 Zach McCann will head to American with PA legend Teague Moore.

 

#155 Zach McCann (Franklin Regional) – American

A 2018 Surge Champion Zach McCann has progressed over the last two seasons and will head to American where he joins #136 Nick Montalbano.

 

#168 Jason Geyer (Seneca Valley) – NYU

Seneca Valley’s Jason Geyer, like Montalbano, has been close to punching a ticket to Hershey and 2019 is his last chance. Geyer will be heading to New York University following his senior season.

 

#197 Cole Grove (Chambersburg Area) – Pitt-Johnstown

A consistent grappler from District 3’s Chambersburg – Cole Grove has twice placed at the South Central Regional coming just one win shy of qualifying for the PIAA State Tournament. Grove will head to UPJ following his career with the Trojans.
