Pennsylvania Advances Six Wrestlers into the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational

Despite suffering a few upsets on a wild first day of the 36th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, Pennsylvania will see six wrestlers compete in the Championship semifinals. NCAA State runner-up Ethan Lizak (Parkland/Minnesota) fell to freshman Taylor Lamont (Utah Valley) in the quarters but former NCAA All-American Connor Schram (Canon-McMillan/Stanford) was able to grind his way into the semifinals at 125 lbs.

Two former PIAA State Champions went at it in the 133 lbs. quarterfinals with Luke Pletcher (Greater Latrobe/Ohio State) and Korbin Myers (Boiling Springs/Edinboro). Pletcher advanced into the semifinals with a (5-1) win. Red hot Josh Shields (Franklin Regional/Arizona State) needed overtime to get past Archie Colgan (Wyoming) but advanced with a (3-1 SV) win to set-up a rematch with Ohio State’s Micah Jordan at 157 lbs.

At 165 lbs. Pennsylvania State Champion and Ohio State junior Te’Shan Campbell (Penn Hills) looked solid against a formidable opponent in Isaiah White of Nebraska. The two were evenly matched with similar styles of hand and head fakes that rely on their quickness – but late in the third Campbell connected on a counter shot to win the match (3-1). 2x NCAA National Qualifier ranked #6 in the Nation by Flo, Zack Zavatsky (Greater Latrobe/Virginia Tech) is looking to get back into form at 184 lbs., where he takes on #5 Domenic Abounader (Michigan) in the semifinals. One of the more surprising performances of the day was at 197 lbs. where Lancaster Catholic’s PIAA State Champion and current Drexel wrestler Stephen Loiseau found his way into the semifinals with three wins on Friday. Unranked Loiseau upset the #15 seed Christian Burnner (Purdue) in the opening round and kept rolling into the semifinals.

Brackets are on the FloArena and members to Flo can watch live.
