For Punxsutawney senior Kaleb Young it is a trip he will be making often in a year. The PIAA State Medalist was one of four wrestlers from Pennsylvania that traveled to Iowa’s Carver Hawkeye Arena for the first annual IAWrestle’s ‘Night of Conflict’.

Young, who will be attending Iowa next season, put on a display against fellow senior Colton Clingenpeel of Council Bluffs, Iowa at 160 lbs. The 2x PIAA State Medalist racked up a (9-2) advantage over Clingenpeel before earning a fall at the (3:01) mark. For Kaleb it won’t be the last time he competes in Carver Hawkeye Arena and certainly not his only victory.

2x PIAA State Champion Micky Phillippi (Derry Area) has been near the top of National Rankings the last two years and he showed why on Friday night in Iowa. There the Virginia recruit faced a very tough opponent in Carter Happel of Lisbon, Iowa. Happel is a 3x Iowa State Champion, a 2014 US World Cadet Team Member, and holds a career record of (154-1). Competing at 142 lbs. Phillippi scored several points via the push-out to go ahead (4-0) on Happel. It was all Micky the rest of the way as he controlled a (12-5) match and victory. Check out the post-match interview with Micky, representing PA Power Wrestling, below from Flo Wrestling.

Central Cambria star Max Murin, a 2015 PIAA State Champion at 113 lbs., competed at 126 lbs. where he took on Iowa senior and 2x State Champion Brock Rathbun. Despite the two weight-class jump for Murin he was impressive in a (6-2) victory. At 120 lbs. PIAA State Runner-up Cole Manley (Altoona Area) was overwhelmed by a formidable opponent. Manley, a junior, met with Iowa sophomore Alex Thomsen who as a freshman was a Iowa State Champion, a Fargo Cadet Double All-America, placing second in Freestyle and fourth in Greco-Roman. Thomsen, ranked #14th in that Nation by Flo, poured it on defeating Manley (20-8).
