Pennsylvania Advances 41 into FloNationals Quarterfinals
INDIANA, PA – A total of 41 wrestlers from the Keystone State have advanced into the 2017 FloNationals Quarterfinals setting up several head-to-head matches between Pennsylvania studs.
Both PIAA State Champions at 106 lbs. this season, Doug Zapf (Downingtown West) and Beau Bayless (Reynolds) each advanced into the quarters in addition to four wrestlers at 113 lbs. State Champion and top seed Jaret Lane (Southern Columbia) is joined by 2-time State Runner-up Louis Newell (Seneca Valley) plus State Medalists Dalton Rohrbaugh (Spring Grove) and Ed Scott (DuBois).
A pair of 2017 PIAA State Medalists will clash in the quarters with senior Cole Manley (Altoona) meeting sophomore Patrick Gould (East Stroudsburg South) at 126 lbs. Two of the State’s best scramblers on the mat, Cole Matthews (Reynolds) and Joey Blumer (Kiski Area), will do battle at 138 lbs. While Matthews owns a State Title and was a Runner-up in 2017, Joey Blumer is a Penn State recruit who can scrap with the best.
State Champion Justin McCoy (Chestnut Ridge) will take on 2-time State Medalist Dallas Bulsak (South Park) at 145 lbs. as the pair met multiple times during the season. The biggest match-up may be at 152 lbs. in a State Finals re-match between Edmond Ruth (Susquehanna Twp.) and Robert Patrick (Ligonier Valley). Ruth was the winner in that meeting, defeating Patrick for the second time this season. Patrick, his only two loses on the season coming to Ruth, is a 2-time State Runner-up. In another blockbuster match-up at 152 lbs. a pair of 2017 PIAA State Finalists will clash with sophomore and 2-time State Medalist Carter Starocci (Cathedral Prep) taking on junior Josh Stillings (Pennridge). These are two of the biggest underclass names in the State.
At 182 lbs. State Champion Cody Mulligan (Saegertown) will take on State Qualifier Blake Barrick (Big Spring) in the quarters.
