Cole Matthews Wins Freestyle & Greco Cadet Open Championships

2015 PIAA State Champion Cole Matthews (Reynolds) had a successful trip to Las Vegas, NV when he became a double Cadet Open Champion. The sophomore, who has finished first and third at the PIAA State Tournament, travelled to Las Vegas where he competed in the Cadet Open Championship in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman styles.

Matthews had no issues tearing through the 138 lbs. field winning all four of his Freestyle matches by tech-fall picking up a total of 42 points. In the finals Cole defeated Nevada State Champion Peter Enos (Faith Lutheran High School) by tech-fall (12-2). Matthews was joined by fellow Pennsylvania wrestler Tyler Greer (Grove City) who finished in fifth place at 152 lbs. The freshman went (4-2) in his six matches.

Cole Matthews followed up his Freestyle Championship to become a double Cadet Open Champion winning the Greco-Roman division. Matthews competed in the 130 lbs. – 142 lbs. weight grouping and again went undefeated (3-0) picking up two tech-falls along the way.
