Cumberland Valley Coach Dave Heckard to Sit out During PIAA State Duals
In lieu of the recent events that took place at Milton Hershey High School over the weekend during the District 3 Class AAA Dual Team Championships Cumberland Valley School District and head coach Dave Heckard announced that he will not be coaching during this week’s PIAA State Dual Team Championship.

Cumberland Valley head wrestling coach Dave Heckard will not be on the bench for this week’s PIAA Team Championships at Giant Center.
Heckard and school officials jointly decided it would be in the “best interest of interscholastic athletics that he does not participate in the tournament.”
The decision comes after a pair of incidents involving the Eagles and Central Dauphin during Saturday’s District 3 Class 3A Team Wrestling Championships at Milton Hershey’s Spartan Center.
The incident centered around the last four bouts of a tight match between the long-time rivals.
Two of those bouts featured injury disqualifications against both teams. The results led to taunting, tempers flaring and harsh words between the coaching staffs.
Heckard released the following statement to PennLive Monday afternoon. A joint statement from the Cumberland Valley and Central Dauphin administrations is scheduled to be released later Monday afternoon.
“As of today, the Cumberland Valley School District, along with myself, have decided that it is in the best interest of interscholastic athletics that I do not participate as a coach in the PIAA State Team Tournament this coming weekend.
