Escape The Rock Preview and Storylines to Follow

Will #1 Austin Bell Hit the Trifecta?

Pennsylvania’s top ranked wrestler at 170 lbs. in Class AAA has the opportunity to hit the regular season trifecta at the Escape The Rock. Bell, who is undefeated his senior season, already owns Championship titles from the Walsh Ironman and POWERade Tournament. He can add a ETR Championship belt in his first appearance at Council Rock South High School. Bell is the top seed but is joined by fellow #1 State Ranked wrestler #1 Jacob Oliver (Huntingdon Area). The junior is a returning PIAA State Runner-up and is seeded second to Bell. His only defeat on the season is to #2 Mikey Labriola (Bethlehem Catholic) in the King of The Mountain Finals. Watch below Austin Bell after winning the 2015 POWERade Championship.

Can #8 Julian Chlebove Climb to top of 113 lbs.?

#8 Julian Chlebove entered the season with high goals and a lofty ranking being named PA Power Wrestling’s Top Incoming Freshman of 2016. The Konkrete Kid is the third seed and the ETR will be his first Tournament down at 113 lbs. Chlebove will have his hands full with talent including two District 1 studs #2 Jakob Campbell (Boyertown Area) and #3 Matty Parker (Pennridge). Entering with a State Ranking of #8 four wrestler ranked higher than Chlebove will join the rookie at 113 lbs. PIAA State Medalist #5 Aiden Burke (Council Rock North) will be making his season debut down at 113 lbs. and Liberty junior #6 Luke Werner will be in search of his second ETR medal.

Who Will Survive Loaded 132 lbs. Bracket?

Council Rock South junior #1 Zach Trampe has yet to earn a ETR Championship belt in his home gym. As a freshman he finished eighth and last season was fifth. Now in 2016 Trampe is the top ranked wrestler in the State at 132 lbs. and the undefeated junior is on a path to the top. Zach has been on an offensive rampage his junior season but will be joined by a ton of talent. The 132 lbs. bracket will feature a total of ten wrestlers ranked in the State including three PIAA State Finalists. #6 Todd Lane (Southern Columbia Area) was a PIAA State Runner-up his freshman season in 2014 but missed all of last year with an injury. Now up at 132 lbs. Lane will be tested at the ETR with fellow Class AA grappler #7 John Pipa (Bishop McDevitt). The junior was also a PIAA State Runner-up in 2014 as a freshman and followed it up with a PIAA State Medal his sophomore season. #11 Zach Hartman (Belle Vernon Area) had an impressive POWERade finishing second but was upset at the WCCA Tournament last week. The sophomore and returning PIAA State Medalist will hope to bounce back at the ETR with a fourth seed. Add in 2x PIAA State Medalist #9 Colin Glorioso (Huntingdon Area) and a pair of District 3  juniors, #6 Wyatt Long (Cumberland Valley) and #14 Aaron Rump (Chambersburg Area), and 132 lbs. makes a strong case for being the deepest weight-class.

Does #2 Kyle Gentile Repeat as ETR Champion in loaded 182 lbs. Bracket?

Pennridge senior #2 Kyle Gentile was disappointed in his POWERade finish where he placed fourth at 182 lbs. but the Lehigh recruit was on fire at the Beast of the East early in December 2015. Now Gentile is looking for his second straight ETR Championship in yet another brutal 182 lbs. bracket that features four wrestlers ranked in the State’s Top 10 plus National Prep star Michael Beard (Malvern Prep). In the Beast of The East Finals last month Gentile downed the sophomore Beard by major decision (9-0). The two are on a collision course for the second time this year as they are seeded one and two respectively. The funky senior #7 Milton Kobaly (Belle Vernon Area) and the best tournament of his career last weekend at the WCCA where he downed two PIAA State Medalists  – #8 Jake Shaffer (Greater Latrobe) and #10 Tyler Worthing (Kiski Area) to claim the Championship title. Kobaly also owns an impressive win over returning PIAA State Champion #2 Greg Bulsak (South Park) by fall at the POWERade. 2015 Escape the Rock Finalist #6 Drew Peck (Chambersburg Area) will attempt to improve on his finish from a season ago but will really have to earn it.

Which Freshmen Shake-up the ETR Field?

There are a total of eight freshmen who will participate in the ETR that were featured in PA Power Wrestling’s “Top Incoming Freshmen of 2016” including #1 Julian Chelebove (Northampton Area). In addition to these eight rookies a handful of others who are hoping to make an impact against some of the toughest competition in the State. Malvern Prep freshman Shane Hanson-Ashworth is the fifth seed at 106 lbs. and could find himself higher on the podium. #13 Dan Mancini (Owen J. Roberts) is coming off the biggest win of his young career when last week he defeated returning PIAA State Medalist Lucas Miller (Boyertown Area). The rookie is ranked #13 in the State at 126 lbs. and is seeded ninth. Mancini may have to face off with Miller for the second time as he is the fourth seed. The Phelps School freshman Jameel Coles is competing in a deep 220 lbs. bracket but is highly regarded and enters with the #8 seed.
