#12 Council Rock South Wins Parkland Duals on Milestone Day

It was a day of milestones for the Council Rock South Golden Hawks wrestling program at the 2016 Parkland Winter Duals. The Goldon Hawks coaching staff, led by Brad Silimperi and Trap McCormack, captured their 200th career dual meet victory on Saturday as they went undefeated (5-0) winning the dual tournament. Two Golden Hawk grapplers each reached milestones in their careers as junior #1 Zach Trampe and senior #6 Lucas Martoccio both won their 100th career matches.

#12 Council Rock South came into the Parkland Duals with a (2-0) record against a talented field that included two teams ranked higher; #8 Exeter Township and #9 Parkland. 

In round 1 the Hawks handled District 12’s Central High winning (74-6) before meeting #8 Exeter in round two. Council Rock South won all the toss-up matches, picked up bonus points in key matches, and cruised to a (43-23) match win. The Hawks got out to a great start picking up three straight bonus point wins with Nick Verdi earning a fall at 145 lbs. while #6 Lucas Martoccio and #6 Dylan Schwartz both picked up tech-falls in the next two matches. The dual was highlighted by #1 Zack Trampe defeating #4 Brett Kulp at 132 lbs. (7-2) and #15 Riley Palmer downing #25 James Harkness at 138 lbs. (3-2).

In round 3 they took on WPIAL program Pine-Richland which entered with four wrestlers ranked in the State. At 152 lbs. #6 Dylan Schwartz outlasted returning PIAA State Qualifier #13 David Kelly in a tight (3-2) match. At 120 lbs. PIAA State Medalist #7 Hunter Baxter (Pine-Richland) shut-out #13 Ben Radnor (Council Rock South) by a score of (3-0). It was all Council Rock South throughout the dual winning (58-12) in their third dual of the day.

In round 4 the Golden Hawks took on Virginia school Hayfield and came away with a (63-12) win to set-up a Championship dual meet with host #9 Parkland. Both programs entered the dual with seven wrestlers each ranked in the State Top 25 as half of the matches were decided by regular decisions. In those bouts Council Rock South won four of the seven with #13 Ben Radnor leading the way against #6 Zach Ortman in a wild (10-8 SV) match between two talented sophomores. At 132 lbs. Zack Trampe fought off #18 Lee Todora (13-9) to win his 100th career victory. #6 Lucas Martoccio sealed the dual meet victory with a fall at 152 lbs. over freshman Joe Guida in (0:45).
